ISLAMABAD: Using a tree transplanter given by the Pakistan Navy, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has begun moving trees out of the path for the construction of a new road.
According to the sources, the civic organization is building the road from D-12 to Khayaban-i-Iqbal to link Margalla Avenue with other avenues in the city.
Recently, CDA began building a 5.5 km long road between sector E-11 and 11th Avenue to Khyaban-i-Iqbal, where Margalla Avenue ends.
The sources confirmed that around Rs. 3.9 billion project includes 5 culverts and an intersection at E-11, which is anticipated to be completed within 6 months.
The work officially began after work orders were given by CDA on December 21 and with the use of a machine provided by the Pakistan Navy, the environment division of the CDA has started transplanting trees that are falling into the project’s alignment.
Director of Environment Akhtar Rasool stated that they are making every effort to transplant as many trees as they can and a significant number of mature trees and young trees falling into the path have been relocated.
He said that in addition to tree transplantation, CDA will carry out its mitigation plan, which calls for the planting of 10 trees to replace one that has been cut down.
The director also added that CDA has a small transplanter of its own and that the Navy gave a large transplanter which has made the work simpler.
According to the director, there were 49 eucalyptus trees in the alignment as well, and rather than being transferred, they will be put up for sale in the coming days.
The project was launched under the guidance of CDA Chairman retired Capt Mohammad Usman, who noted that Margalla Avenue traffic coming from G.T. Road could not be controlled without the building of this road.
Over 90% of the work has reportedly already been completed on the Margalla Avenue project from G.T. Road to sector D-12.
It is being carried out by Frontiers Work Organization (FWO), and the project’s original extended deadline of December 31, 2022, has passed.
However, CDA anticipates that the remaining work will be finished within the upcoming weeks.

This new road will end up at E11 chowk on Margalla Road. Then this traffic coming from GT Road will end up at service road F10/G10 and Margalla Road. How these poorly designed two lane each side can handle this traffic. It will cause chaos on these small road and a big problem for residents of F 10/11 and G 10/11 residents. CDA must link this new road with Srinagar highway to avoid excessive traffic on service roads of above mentioned sectors.
