Backup Your Gmail, Hotmail, Facebook, WordPress, Twitter and More, Fore FREE

Just seconds ago, Dr. Awab tweeted that he took backup of his blog, and downloaded almost 1 GB of files on local computer. Just that moment, a co-incidence maybe, I was reading this post by CyberDera about taking online backups of almost every online activity that we usually do – for FREE.

Yes, this very amazing service Backupify, is offering backups for WordPress, Gmail, Hotmail, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Google Docs and what not.

Essentially, for every internet user – they are offering something to backup – and for expats, this is a one stop platform to backup all your online accounts.

If you are using WordPress, stop worrying about backups, as this cloud based backups are automatic, seamless and are free (only if you sign-up before February 15th).

Backupify will keep a copy of your database (.sql file) and blog files separately, that you can access anytime in future.

Though it’s very rare, but we have seen instances of Gmail accounts vanishing and then never appearing back.

If you find your emails very crucial, which I suppose they are, you can add your gmail account as well, to download latest copy of your Gmail data.

And all this comes with extremely easy to manage interface. Usually it doesn’t take more than few clicks to add an account for taking backups.

Based on cloud storage, you need little to worry and there are almost no chances that Backupify will lose your backups. They are using Amazon’s S3’s secure and reliable services. Also to mention, all files are stored with secure keys – so that no one can access them.

If you have your own S3 storage account, you can configure it with Backupify to use your space.

Backupify is offering free sign-up till February 15, 2010, and will remain free who are signing up now. After this date two variants of premium accounts (49$ per year and 79$ per year) will be available, which I find very attractive – with what they are offering.

  • That is useful piece of information but my concerns are, are they trust worthy enough, is it secure to backup there, any flaw in their system can hurt very much resulting in providing anyone else the opportunity to get away with the data etc.

    • This concerns everyone, here are two things we need to look in

1 – If this company is going to use my data, we don’t really know – but what they say is, “We don’t look at it, we don’t sell it, we don’t analyze it, we don’t modify it. We charge for our service, so we never have to resort to analyzing your data so that we can sell advertising against it or anything like that”

2 – If we can rely on their services? They are using Amazon’s S3 storage. here is what they say on this: http://blog.backupify.com/2009/06/27/can-you-trust-amazon-s3-with-your-data/

Having said this, i won’t say this company is 100 percent secure and reliable, coz nothing is 100 percent reliable in computer world. Its risky world my friend : – )

    • hmm – there are several posts that go beyond 100 mark with-in a day. Why you asking? so that i give you a better answer to your question

  • Thanks ur quick reply .I am a big fan of pro I ask only for general info and if this is a risk for pro don’t publish here

  • Nothing is secure now these days especially on the internet.
Lets suppose if the company itself does nothing to your files and they do what they promise how about a third party getting into this.He might hack the whole servers nothing is impossible.
The most secure way is to backup in your own local drive.

  • well i was thinking to try but after reading comments i am bit conscious regarding security measure so what i think is to download at mail through outlook or any other email client and save it in singal file so is there any possibility what am trying to do ? can any one help me ? by this way password will be just with us and less risk as compared to this back up

  • hey guys its a good service but we have to remember one thing that this service will only be free till the 15th of february after that they are moving to a premium model i.e. other then the users registering before that all will have to pay to redeem this service

  • Some security issues. To backup your any account you have to feed your user id and password which is not totally secure. But still let’s say they are more secure and bug free still that is useless, because they are using S3 services which is originally handled by amazon.com and if you see this link you will come to know that amazon giving this service free only till 30th June. See this link “http://aws.amazon.com/s3/ “so what would you do if you use free backupify and after 4/5 months they force you to pay. im sure you cant leave all your data to a third party. Think about it once. And most of all there are many softwares for hotmail and other accounts backup but for gmail no software available but using IMAP service in your outlook you can download your all emails with attachments. That’s not much difficult but neither easy for newbie’s. and if you planning to use backupify then you will be disappointed coz service for gmail is disabled as they say temporary, I don’t think its temporary coz they said they blocked it due to heavy usage which concerns gmail so if they enable this service again it will Burdon gmail again and they will disable it again.
Overall not a big deal. you can use it free but that is for limited time. Choice is yours

  • it is good enough … and when it comes to have anything for free than heart throbs why not give it a try :P
