Minister of Finance and Revenue, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh briefed National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication regarding the privatization of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).
The meeting was held in the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir.
Mr. Hafeez Shaikh requested the committee that as issue is very sensitive for which an “in-camera” meeting may be called for detailed scrutiny / briefing on the issue.
The committee agreed to his suggestion, and decided to hold an “in-camera meeting” after the consultation with Minister for Finance.
The committee raised several questions on the bidding of the PTCL and its privatization but it was decided that these questions will be asked in the in-camera meeting.
However, the committee felt that there were several procedural lapses in the PTCL privatization and rules were not followed by the Privatization Commission at that time.
Dr. Talat Mahesar, Mrs. Farhat. Khan, Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, Miss Marvi Memon, Sajid Ahmed, Muhammad Akhtar Khan Kannju, Nawabzada Ghazanfar Ali Gul Advisor to Prime Minister on Political Affairs attended the meeting.
I think PTCL is already privatized and owned by Etisalat.
