20pc Cut in Fares of Balochistan-bound Trains Announced

Federal Minister for Railways Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed has announced to slash fares of Balochistan-bound trains by 20 per cent.

He made the announcement on Monday afternoon while talking to media at Quetta Railway Station.

Rasheed said he has outlined all the issues of Pakistan Railways and these would be fixed one by one. Quetta-bound trains would be equipped with Wi-Fi facility soon, the minister announced.

The minister said that a new train service from Quetta to Karachi will be started soon.

“We will soon launch a new train service between Karachi and Quetta on L1. The railway track from Taftan to Karachi would be protected through barbed wires, the minister added.

He announced hiring of 500 constables in Railway Police of the province. A Rs2.5 billion investment would be made to upgrade Harnai Railway track and FC would be deployed to provide security to the trains in the district. The minister promised to launch more trains.

He criticised his predecessors for their perceived incompetence, blaming them for wasting billions of rupees on railways stations which generate mere Rs6 lakh monthly revenue.

The minister said that the PR would welcome public-private partnership for projects on PR’s land, saying that effective and efficient utilizition of PR’s land was critical for revival of the organisation.
