Android Market Gets a Facelift

clip_image002[4]Two months after launching a revamped Android Market website, Google unveiled a redesigned Android Market client on Tuesday.

According to Google, the new market client is designed in such a way that it provides a better experience to the user with quicker paths to downloading and purchasing products with an overall user friendly experience for app purchase and discovery.

The client sports a new promotional page which will highlight the top content. Users will be able to instantly access the top rated and featured material as well as find their favorite movies and books.

A new tile based design will allow you to select a category and new navigation controls will allow you to swipe left or right to browse amongst the Top Paid, Top Free, Top Grossing, Top New Paid, Top New Free, and Trending lists.

The lists are also country specific to provide a more relevant experience, but that’s only for a few top countries right now. The app details page also gets a revamp, the name and price of the app is now at the top of the screen with screenshots being available by swiping left/right. Scrolling down, users can read the app description and reviews etc.

The click-to-purchase flow has also been made simple with only two clicks being needed to buy the app from the app details page.

This new update is a welcome one since Google had many complaints about the difficulty for finding apps in the old Market design. Now Google says that users can find what they want much faster and more efficiently with the help of the streamlined design. The whole redesign is focused to help developers too, who have long preferred the iOS to develop their apps. With steady amounts of upgrades with this being the latest one, Google hopes to change that.

Google has already begun rolling out the new market client to users running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and higher, with the update expected to reach all phones in the coming weeks. Here’s a look at the new Market:
