Telcos Lose 1.65 Million Customers in December 2012

Telecom sector of Pakistan lost 1.65 million customers in December 2012 due to data clean-up of un-registered SIMs, said recent stats issued by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

This notable rate of churn is attributed to data clean-up and ban on sale of SIMs through retailers’ network.

It merits mentioning here that PTA – on directions of Interior Ministry – had directed all telecom operators to sell new SIMs only through their service centres and had banned the sales through retailer channels.

At the end of the December 2012 total subscribe base of mobile phone users stood at 121,946,363 down from 123,597,202 in November 2012.

Cellular teledensity decreased to 68.8 percent, down from 69.8 percent a month ago.
