Under the directives issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ufone’s deployment of the Biometric Verification System (BVS) for issuance/activation or change of SIMs has now reached to over 200 cities.

The move has been made to comply with PTA directives to deploy BVS from 1st of August 2014.

The operator had previously initiated the installation of the BVS in December 2013, successfully deploying it at all its service centers and franchises within the same month.

As part of a comprehensive phase-wise roll out of the BVS, Ufone had extended the deployment across its retail network in Baluchistan and Karachi by April 2014.

Commenting on this recent development, Mr. Amir Pasha, Head of PR & CSR at Ufone said, “Ufone is committed and has carried out Biometric Verification System installation over 200 cities across Pakistan in order to facilitate our valued customers. In the near future, we aim to extend this BVS network to over 50,000 outlets. We have carried out extensive training sessions for our retail network for the use and adoption of the system.”

The company has been on the forefront in compliance with the government and PTA’s policies, said a statement.

Ufone said that it has always given priority to national security by rolling out initiatives for indirectly curbing crime, even though significant unforeseen expenses had to be faced. The BVS layout was one of the many measures taken under PTA directives to help tighten security and eliminate any possible security vulnerabilities.

SIM cards pose a serious threat to Pakistan’s security as they are routinely
being used in crimes. I guess it’s great that now we would have a proper biometric verification process that can put an end to
      selling of illegal sim cards.
