Sony Makes an Arrival at the Android Wear market

Sony is one of the older players in the wearables market. It has been regularly launching its SmartWatch-series products since a few years now, and even with limited success, it hasn’t stopped.

This time, though, it has its biggest chance at gaining a sizable share of the market yet, with its latest SmartWatch 3 running on Android Wear. The wearable costs $250, the same as the Moto 360, and is currently available.

The watch boasts several funky, sporty-coloured cases, and has a 1.6″ 320 x 320 transreflective LCD display at the front. The silicon covers are replaceable and will be sold separately, while the watch part itself has a steel back.

Battery life is quoted at up to 2 days of normal usage. Like so many of Sony’s recent smartphones, it also comes with IP68-certification.

Connectivity is done via Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. Charging is done though microUSB. You get a quad-core 1.2Ghz processor with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB worth internal storage. Requirement for usage includes Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, however, for a few features such as fitness tracking or listening to music via headphones, it can work as a standalone gadget too.

The watch supports voice input and vibrates gently when a notification comes. Google Now is integrated for web searches and other functions. Worldwide availability should follow suit in the coming few months.
