Zong had decided to upgrade existing SIMs of its entire customer base — in cities where its 4G services are available — with 4G compatible SIMs, we have been told by officials of the company.
With this, all Zong customers in 4G covered cities are eligible to get their old SIMs replaced with 4G compatible SIMs for free.
Zong has said that its 4G SIMs are Universal SIMs, which the company says are different in terms of technology from currently available conventional SIM cards.
As per company claims, Uuniversal SIMs, or USIMs, come with enhanced security features that safeguard any security leakages, especially the ones that surfaced after Gemalto hack incident.
Zong said that its investment in 4G SIMs is not only customer focused but since USIMs are more secure the initiative is also aimed at enhancing national security.
Company also believes that enabling customers with 4G compatible SIMs will mean more chances of them using the 4G services. Company said that its data rates for 2G, 3G and 4G are same and hence its more productive for customers to use 4G services where they are available.
Zong Customers in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Faisalabad and Peshawar can get their SIMs replaced from their nearest service centres or Zong franchises.
