LG Turns on the Nostalgia With Android Powered Flip Phone

Remember the time when flip phones used to be a status symbol for people? It appears that your favourite smartphone makers have neither. After numerous launches in its home country, LG has now released a flip Android phone for the international markets, called the Wine Smart.

The phone’s biggest feature is its design itself: a two-part structure separated by a rotating mechanism. Other than that, the exterior is made of leather, leaving no room for a secondary display outside.

On the keypad side, you get wide the traditional alphanumeric keypad with four hotkeys. The display is a small 3.2” IPS LCD display with HVGA (320 x 420) resolution. The software running on it is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

On the hardware side, you get a 1.1 Ghz quad-core processor with 1 GB RAM and 4 GB storage, expandable via microSD. There’s no selfie shooter, but there is a main camera with 3.15 mp resolution. Connectivity is boosted by Bluetooth 4.1 and LTE, while the phone tips the scales at 143 grams.

The pricing details are not available right now but its South Korean counterpart is sold for around $170. Whether you find it a reasonable deal is totally subjective; for us it is already inducing bouts of nostalgia.

The Wine Smart will hit the markets worldwide, starting from late August.

      • lol a huge success? how? I would love to know your facts!! You think you would pay $170 (Rs. 17,000) for this phone?? I bet you would never. This phone won’t have a touch screen which would make navigation hell difficult. There are a thousand other options in this price! Those who say it will be a huge success bla bla should come up with facts! Good day!
