This Sunday evening at 7 p.m, Shehbaz Sharif will conduct a Q&A on Facebook via video message. Anyone can ask a question and raise issues by commenting on his personal page on Facebook. The Chief Minister will then answer those questions in a video and share it on his page.
In a status update, Shehbaz Sharif said that public feedback was a very important source of guidance for him and given the volume of questions directed at him and his desire for direct interaction, he’d be answering questions via a video message. He also encouraged people to highlight major issues that were related to their city, village and district so that he could understand common concerns and prioritize them accordingly.
Politicians in Pakistan get a bad rap and for good reason. However, this is an excellent step that’s aiming to bridge the traditional gap that exists between the populace and its elected representatives. Technology has brought people closer than ever and direct feedback and accountability via the internet is something we don’t see often in developing countries like Pakistan.
We just hope the questions picked aren’t cherry picked and the public get answers to questions that actually matter. Fingers crossed.
