Disgruntled CS Student Hacks University Website to Record Protest Against Management

The University of Sarghoda website was hacked earlier today by a Computer Sciences student to protest against the management of the institute.

The site has since been restored but we managed to copy the message for our readers. The text is given below. If you want to check out the screenshot, you can do so at the end of the post.

Hi Everyone, ( TL;DR start from 4th point )

I can’t introduce myself because of the consequences that I may have to face afterwards I have tried few other mediums like facebook and emails but management efficiently blocked me right away. So here I am.

I’d like to bring the attention of worthy V.0 and HOD of CS & IT and students to few points that are making CS & IT Dept. a worst place.

1. Quality of Education: In CS & IT Department teachers are selected based on their connections and references and then they ruin students lives with their dangerous knowledge ( most notable, Sir xxxx xxxx and Sir xxxx xxxx i.e guys who can’t do windows teach CS) .

2. Biased Teachers: If you have a reference you can get 4 GPA without taking a single class or knowing full name of subject. (Sir xxxx xxxx)

3. Teachers Are Gods: Yes, I mean it. You can’t object them or question them or do anything they don’t like. otherwise you’ll fail.

4. Bitter Truths:

  • Sticking with teachers + TC is key to get 4 GPA ( Getting 29 sessional marks out of 20 is not strange)
  • Teachers who never tested a single software teaches “Software Testing” ( I mean, how could you? )
  • Teachers who never managed a single project teaches “Project Management”
  • 9 out of 10 teachers have never ever built a single software ( I still wonder who is the 1 )
  • 99% of methods taught to us are never implemented by any of our teachers
  • No matter what, A teacher can never be wrong THAT makes YOU wrong even when you are not
  • wrong ( Partially quoted by Sir xxxx )
  • Everyday we are taught couple of definations [sic] and some teachers even make us write them down.
  • CS & IT Department produces teachers, not IT Experts / Developers / Programmers
  • Work at IT Hub & Get a job in CS & IT Department
  • Write a mail to VC and it’ll go unnoticed

5. Request: I just want to take a chance at changing the system. Computer science is a complex subject and requires experienced staff who really know what they teach. They don’t make you write & cram bunch of definations [sic] also there should be a medium for students to raise voice againt [sic] unjust and biased staff. TEACHERS ARE NOT GODS.

P.S:

While I’m sure the immediate reaction of the management at University of Sarghoda will be to find out the responsible student and make an example out of him, I feel like this message will hit home for a lot of engineers specially in the Computer Engineering and Computer Science fields.

The disgruntled student talks about the poor quality of education, biased and unqualified teachers who act like they’re the final word on everything and various issues like flattery working better than hard work. While they are not prevalent at the top institutes in the country, other universities suffer from things like these very often. University education is not cheap and students have a right to raise their voice against perceived injustice.

It is a shame that this student had to resort to hacking the site of his university to make himself heard. The worst part of this incident is that the management will likely ignore the context and focus on the act of hacking the site itself.

The current status of education is highlighted by bemusing revelations like the COMSATS pro-rector’s PhD thesis being a copy-paste job or a blacklisted academic being award the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. While there is a lot of good work being done, by and large the student community in Pakistan is dissatisfied with the education they are provided and we implore relevant people in the government and academia to take note of this.

We keep saying that Pakistan has one of the highest percentages of youth population in the world and it’s definitely an opportunity. But if we actually want them to become sophisticated adults capable of propelling our country forward instead of disillusioned and mindless consumers, we need to start taking a very hard look at our higher education system.

  • this is the same situation in most of universities especially in computer science department . they are like mafias. they know nothing can happened to them .

  • Oh acha acha “Sarghoda University”.

Bhai, paisey do, degree lo. Iss hath dey, uss hath ley.

  • Was it necessary to post the names of the teachers in this article? I don’t know but public humiliation of people like this would be a perfect ground for a law suit in US courts? I know you can do anything in Pakistan but just curious if it’s the right thing to do or not..

  • Same is the case in the College where I studied CS from 2003 to 2007, they make you cram and pass the exams that’s it. After they ruined our futures every single teacher of my department wen abroad to do MS/PHD for their future’s sake, who cares about a student.
That’s the dilemma of the education system. They produce only teachers this guy is right 100%.

  • I would like this student to work for me sometime in near future,,,,, if not? then he may hire me.

  • Nephew of mine got admission in the Lahore campus and its been four days Not even a single class had happened so far

  • Hats off to this student
I personally know a graduate from Sargodha University who does not know ABC of computer and calls himself Software Engineer. I always thought Sargodha University has some serious issues and now I read this. Students should not focus on getting degree without getting the right skill. In that way you are just a garbage!
I am with this student, I second him!

  • It’s not just the university of Sargodha, There are a lot of private universities that are producing graduates that don’t know even the basics of computer science but have the shining GPA. UMT, University Of Lahore, USA and many more who charge you close to a million rupees for their computer science program but when you enter the industry most of the graduates of these institutes are not ready to enter the field and compete with other engineers

  • Really proud of that guy :) And yes its a bitter truth we CS students have to face…. even in my institution…. the things we study were written in 2006! ( yup thats riight… almost a decade).
How can a student make sense out of things written a decade ago by somebody??!!
And the teachers u find are also usually not so familiar with even using the computer!

  • It is happening in all part of Pakistan.
Love your courage to speak against unjust.
Public humiliation honi chahiy in jaiso ki.

  • I think its not safe to redirect them on facebook, as far as i know one has to verify his account by phone number, if he used an online number then its good but if he used his or any Pakistani citizen number then he/she can be reached if FIA is involved. I hope he stays anonymous

  • My University and I study their in CS&IT department, I was never expecting such whole shit and Sifarish culture there. In my days there was not such thing but now its alarming for the future of the innocent students. By the way good work by the student!

  • Yes, i’m also a student studying in Chemistry Department, faced same problem with my minor subjects, such as CS, Management and English.
Department of Chemistry is giving quality Education but in just theoretical field not in practical.
The above messages of student are the voice of all students, thumbs up for Hacker.

  • Dengue sada avay ee avay…
kadam barhao dengue…….hum 2 gpa walay tumharay saath hain.
Dengue teray janisaar Beshumar Beshumar :p :p :D

  • I’ll give this kid a job.

P.S. This story is not uncommon. SZABIST is just as worse, with career titans teaching entrepreneurship and fresh graduates teaching freshman courses.

  • Wow. Here we have got teachers teaching computers who do not even know how to create a little software. I bet even top ranking Quaid University of Pakistan will have this kind of teacher. And here I am a university illiterate with no degrees who is successfully running few nice blogs and now gonna start developing themes soon. (Thanks Allah for his blessings.)

  • We can secure UOS servers and website and guarantee no further hacking can take place. Already securing Riphah university, USAID, SGAFP, Pearl hotels among many of our clients.

  • University of Gujrat is also has lot of teacher in CS department. They claim they developed lot of applications and done his degrees from abroad. In reality they didn’t know anything about CS. They use pre-build slides obtained from internet for teaching
