UCWeb, a portfolio company of Alibaba Mobile Business Group, hosted its first UC Browser users meetup event in Islamabad today. Attended by more than 250 UC fans, the event provided a better understanding of UC Browser,and officially launched UC Student Ambassador Program Pakistan. Through this program, college students are able to apply for internship or even project fund for mobile internet related activities.
Speaking at the occasion, Serena Zhang, Marketing Manager Pakistan, said:
“Helping young college students to achieve their dreams is one of our consistent focuses in our CSR activities. Through the UC Student Ambassador Program, we hope to provide real life opportunities to Pakistani students that will help them to build a better career.”
The meetup was hosted by UCWeb team from China at the National Library of Pakistan, Islamabad, with a keynote session from Mr. Leslie Chen, Product Manager, Emerging Markets, on UC Browser’s development areas and its strategy for Pakistani users.
He shared different technological challenges faced while delivering the browsing experience to the users and how UC team had implemented a core localization of the application by serving content in Urdu, Pakistan’s national language.
Wrapping up his session, Leslie Chen said
“UC Web is committed to changing lives of Pakistanis by providing the best technological solutions available and this project reflects our dedication and commitment to the long standing Pakistan-China friendship.”
The session was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where many queries were answered regarding the features offered in the UC Browser application. Apart from the fast browsing speed, fast downloading and lag-free video playback, UC Browser provides real-time updates of news, sports, viral music and video content which are very popular among its users. The recently launched UC News Hub, a news aggregation platform, was also discussed and feedback was obtained from users on improving the quality and relevancy of the content served.
The event also served as the official launch ceremony of the UC Student Ambassador Program. Targeted towards university students, the premier internship program is intended to create a valuable opportunity for students.
