PEMRA Suspends Nickelodeon’s License for Showing Indian Content

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has suspended the license of Nickelodeon, a US based satellite channel that targets kids and youth.

PEMRA, in a statement issued moments ago, said that license was suspended, with immediate effect, due to violation of authority order in which it had directed channels to not to show Indian content in Pakistan after October 21st, 2016.

PEMRA said that despite warnings, Nickelodeon kept showing Indian content for several days and now its landing rights in Pakistan have been suspended.

PEMRA said that it will continue to monitor satellite channels in Pakistan and any violations —  particularly for showing Indian content — will be dealt severely.

PEMRA said that suspension of Nickelodeon has been communicated to all distribution networks.

      • hahaha.. sahi kaha..
pakistan ko china se bohot pyar ha na..
        Chinese channel chalao tumlog..
sab chiz china ka use karo..

        • Sure, why not? Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world. And I’m always up for learning something new.

    • Thanks you Pemra bhot acha decision lia ha aap ney.Agar koi doorsa channel bhi indian content dekai aap usey bhi ban kar dena. Pakistan zindabad.

    • Indian advertisement konsi hai bhai zara ye to batao agar ad me indian actor/actress hoti hai to iss se pakistan ko koi nuqsan nahi han cartoon ban karne se humare bache indian sanskaar seekhne se bach jatay hain aur sunlight washing powder me salman khan ata hai to ye mat bhoolo k ye washing powder pakistani hai… ajate baal ki khaal utarne

      • Indian actors are usually hired for advertisement of Pakistani products when the adverts are out sourced to Indian advertisement agencies hence a whole industry of Pakistani advertisers and models is affected, not to forget that loss to our economy. I am not saying that our advertising agencies are as good as India’s but we need to give them some space to learn and grow.

        • Unless the CONTENT of the advertisements is Indian-only or offencive in some way to Pakistan or Pakistanis, why should PEMRA get involved? It is not PEMRA’s job to get jobs for Pakistanis.

  • Here in Mirpur, AJK Indian content like Chota Bheem is still being aired on TV, so where are you PEMRA?

  • ProPK last time when you added an article about this, you said that Indian Ads are also considered Indian content. But Indian Ads tu bedharak chala rahe hain humare channels wale, tu uske liye koi tareeka nahi?

  • So, PEMRA is trying to impose the rule of “no Indian” content on foreign channels too? Are the Indian programs on Discovery also counted? What about India-produced sports matches on Ten Sports or Geo Super?

  • well thats pretty stupid, if youre going to broadcast indian region, it will obviously will show that. i can watch US nickelodeon and its way different.
or is their something i didnt understood.

  • turkish dramo ko dub krne k lea tyar hn dum h to cartoon bh khud urdu me dub kro na
sirf suspend krna he aata h
