PK661: PIA Offers Rs. 500,000 As Compensation, Will Take 8-10 Days for DNA Tests

The PIA aircraft ATR 42-500, on flight PK 661 crashed yesterday in Chitral resulting in the deaths of all 47 passengers on board.

The cause of the crash was determined to be engine failure which also caused structural damage. This led to the plane stalling straight to the ground instead of gliding to a safe spot.

PIA has announced in a press release that an amount of Rs. 500,000 will be given to the next of kin of all 47 passengers on board the ATR plane involved in the tragic crash.

Identification of Dead Bodies Could Take Days

Government has said that DNA tests of unidentified dead bodies could take 8-10 days and that’s when bodies will be handed over to the families.

PIA’s Compensation

The expenses were agreed upon by the Chairman PIA and the CEO Bernd Hilderbrand. The money will be given to them to meet their funeral expenses.

District managers of the PIA have been instructed to personally visit the residences of each of the 47 passengers and hand over the amount to them in cash. A comprehensive compensation package will be announced later, according to the press release.

Deceased on Board the Plane

Junaid Jamshed was on board the plane as well with his wife Naheed Jamshed. He became one of the most famous pop singers in Pakistan back in the 80’s. In 2005 he started to preach the teachings of Islam with Maulana Tariq Jameel. He was returning from a Tableegh session from Chitral on the plane.

Osama Ahmad Warraich, DC Chitral, was also on board that plane with his wife and daughter. More people like Osama Ahmed and Junaid Jamshed were on board the plane.
