Social Media Love Story: Japanese Woman Travels to Pakistan for Marriage

Love knows no boundaries.

A 29 year old Japanese woman became friends with 30-year-old Rahim Yar Khan resident named Ahmad Anwar on Facebook nine months ago. After falling madly in love with each other, they have decided to tie the knot.

Maria has traveled to Pakistan to meet Ahmed in person in and get married. Originally a Catholic, she embraced Islam upon reaching Pakistan and changed her name to Maria Ahmad. After doing some research on Islam when Ahmad invited her, she had this to say:

Islam is a religion based on truth and the people of Pakistan are very loving.

Talking to the press about her plans after marriage, she said that she and Ahmed would move to Japan and live there.  Ahmad said  “Both our families have agreed on the marriage and we are getting married with their consent”

A similar story unfolded in December last year when a French women traveled to Rahim Yar Khan to marry a 29-year-old man, Umair Ahmed, whom she met on Facebook.  The French woman, Katherine Louvet, had converted to Islam, naming herself Ayesha.

All that remains to be seen is what they put in the water in Rahim Yar Khan.

    • It’s due to the image of Pakistani culture and society abroad. Pakistan and Pakistanis generally have a negative image in a lot of places – be it western countries or other Muslim countries. The fact is, whether we like it or not, Pakistanis are often seem as intolerant, conservative, and corrupt by other nations. Unfortunately, there is a certain extent of reality in this image as well.

We need to improve our image globally. It should start by being more professional, being tolerant towards other religions and cultures, stop being so judgemental all the time, eliminating (or at least reducing corruption) , being more hardworking and organized, etc…

      • You are right, it starts from us. Once someone told me a story in which “A Pakistani was travelling with a Japanese friend in a train and he has no ticket. He has a special way of skipping the ticket checker which he told to his Japanese friend. His friend responded, em now very much worried about you and your people, Pakistani asked why, he said if you bypass 2 units cost of ticket your leaders will bypass 200 trillion units”. An eye opening message for all of us….
