Sarkari Best Seller: Govt Forces Schools to Buy Nawaz Sharif’s Biography

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s biography, titled “Dastan-e-Hayat” has recently been approved by the Punjab Archives and Libraries Wing and all public educational institutes and libraries in Punjab have been urged to stock up on the book.

The instance is being viewed as a dictatorial initiative by the government or a servile attempt by the Punjab’s bureaucracy to gain some favors with the ruling party.

No similar instance could ever take place in any leading democratic country. However, Pakistan has previously seen such attempts by the dictators like General (R) Ayub Khan who published his book “Friends not Masters”.

Similarly, after the 2008 election, all traces of CM Punjab Pervez Elahi and General (R) Pervez Musharraf were removed from all school textbooks which were distributed free of cost.

Letter Issued to Buy the Book

A letter issued to the public libraries and educational institutes by the Punjab Archives and Libraries Wing of the Services and General Administration Department says that the book authored by Tariq Ahmad Khan has been approved. Punjab Public Libraries director-general and directors of public instruction at colleges and schools to convey the government’s approval to the lower administration.

Archives and Libraries Wing Secretary Ahmad Raza Sarwar says the book has been examined and no “objectionable” or “sectarian” content was found in the book. “The book has been recommended to libraries without any instruction to purchase it,”he added.

While he used the word “recommended”, in reality the letter orders the “…heads of the institutions to purchase the approved books out of the funds available with them for the said purpose”.

According to the committee, Nawaz Sharif is a third-time Prime Minister and students should know about his personal life. To further justify the notification, he added that such books aren’t often bought by libraries and publishers have to run about to sell them.

Public’s Response

Those in academic circles have termed this as a joke and an effort to please the PM and make money under the government’s umbrella.

It is common knowledge that schools get limited funds and barely get by with such a small budget, but now they have to buy multiple books from their own funds.

A curriculum expert Amir Riaz said:

A book aimed at appeasing the rulers is not written for children to read and comprehend and that such efforts confuse the students.

Another question raised by some people is whether the following governments now follow the trend and enforce their leader’s “life histories” upon the youth.

A Punjab Teachers Union representative said that such books are not meant to be read but to sell and make money. According to him, the schools and colleges face severe pressure from the departments to spend their budget on such things only to have them stored in some cupboard.

On Twitter, the book has been tagged with #SarkariBestSeller and is becoming a popular trend.

  • Is this the first time such type of book recommendation letter has been issued by Punjab Archives and Libraries Wing? if Yes, then this act could be questionable; if No, then this article by Aadil Shadman is questionable.

    • I asked a friend whose is librarian in National Assembly secretariat, such letters are written as approval to buy any new book sent as samples.

Writer should be forced to eat print of his own article :)

      • @AbdulWAHABAlam:disqus @fakhrealamm:disqus @tahneet_ali_khan:disqus

He should add an chapter on how to get a “free” 300 kanal house in Bani Gala by selling property overseas while your declared assets’ worth is 32.7 million Rs. only.

        • Yeah right, why don’t you people file a case against him in the court. No balls i suppose?

        • It’s PMLN Government, why can’t they order NAB, FIA , FBR to start an investigation against IK on these charges? Chor machae shor and that’s it.

        • Even if we all (for the sake of argument) believe that Mr. Khan has done something illegal, TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT… NS has done corruption and Money Laundering (Deep down you know it), but again its Pakistan…. where even Justice is served through Establishment!

        • The simple answer to your query is, Imran Khan has never been in power. So whatever ways he make his assets can not be compared with Mian Brothers who were merely kabariya before in power and billionaires after the power. The difference is of “power” “government”. Now you’ll say Imran’s government is in KP so the bani gala house or palace ur referring is way before his KP government. So ur argument doesn’t make sense. And since you seem to be a corrupt minded person you will still support Nawaz even if he gives you shit you will find some way out to praise his shit. This is how you’ve been.

  • Whoever still thinks this is a democracy, is either plain nuts or a paid stooge of the elite.
We don’t have democracy, we have Feudal Lords!

  • Anyone who is interested in different techniques of mony laundering can…. Buy this book……govt of punjab….

  • I don’t see a point of this. What has Mian Nawaz achieved for the country to warrant such importance in educational institutions? His entry into politics came from taking briefcases from ISI, he passed the 13th and 14th amendments to rule like an untouchable king, he set a precedent by deposing an army chief and then appointed a way junior candidate, he attacked the Supreme Court and tried a judicial coup against CJ Sajjad Ali Shah, his country went to war in 1999 and he knew nothing about it, he refused to support the air force in the Atlantique incident, he stashed country wealth in Panama, defaulted on countless loans, took an active part in the cooperative scam, used public office to support and expand his family business. In any other country, he would be behind bars and not writing ‘memoirs’ from the PM office.

    • Either you didn’t read the letter or you have nawaz-phobia like Imran Niazi. Where in letter it is written that they “have to” buy this book? This is a norm that for any book sent for libraries division it goes through a process before it is approved for purchase by libraries.
If he took briefcases from ISI (as per your statement) then along with him make your beloved army accountable too… it also contradicts your 2nd line that he didn’t know anything about the war his country was in 1999. Did people of Pakistan knew that their “beloved” army and its chief played this failed adventure of Kargil actually? Do you know Kargil was part of Pakistan till 1984 and we were never told that India occupied it, did your army ever have spoken about it through their ISPR ? If he didn’t know about it then it was your defying army that kept him in the dark, it is a shame for an institution not him. And then they sent him to Clinton to defend army’s case ?

Judges should be known by their judgments not by their remarks (for media) and judicial activism, is Sajad Ali Shah known in judicial history of Pakistan as a noble judge? He isn’t. Those who “attacked” Supreme court aren’t in PMLN now but those who attacked PTV and Supreme court are in other parties.

If you consider 13th amendment was to declare him the king then for your poor knowledge this actually was for restoration of constitution back to 1973 state taking powers from President to disolve parliament. This wasn’t for him but for any government of the future. 14th amendment was to stop “lotacracy” in parliament, again was he the only one benefiting from it forever ?and for how long?

Your ex-general Musharraf had every power and chance to prove Nawaz corrupt but he couldn’t, they only case of Hodabia Paper mill in which Nawaz was in business with cousins and which was used by Musharraf against Nawaz had decision in favor of Nawaz. As per the verdict he had settled his share of loan with the bank and was not a defaulter. You can keep on playing the same tune.

As you said he has collected wealth (two flats only after 3 times PM, once CM and minister ?) then why it is getting so hard for accuser to prove that in court, financial corruption is most easy to prove, you need guts to do it…but if it exists.

      • I salute your Patwarism. Its very palpable in this post.

        > It is not a matter of ‘if he received any money’. Do read the court’s ruling in the Asghar Khan case. Your beloved Nawaz Sharif was bought for just PKR 3.5 million in 1990.
        > He publicly confessed that he didn’t know about the Kargil war. He printed ads against our armed forces in UK/US dailies. He didn’t give institutional protocol to the armed forces and didn’t respect the role of seniority. He picked and chose Chiefs and JCCSC at whim. He never supported the air force on the Atlantique fiasco. Bottomline – he never had a working relationship with the armed forces. So, don’t blame them when they didn’t work with him. No wonder people distributed sweets when his regime was culled. By the way, they are not ‘my’ army or or ‘my’ generals. Don’t stoop so low.
        > Nawaz Sharif openly engaged in contempt of court. And then you malign Sajjad Ali Shah? What would he do when you incite a judicial coup against a sitting chief justice by egging on (most probably by monetary benefits) Saeeduzaman Siddiqui to declare himself ‘acting chief justice’ when he was but an associate judge at PHC?
        > My ridiculous friend, try to read between the lines. With the 13th and 14th amendments, the PM couldn’t be legally impeached through a no-confidence motion. Something that is provided for in the ’73 constitution which you so hold dear. He wanted to become untouchable.
        > Hudaibiya case never got to its logical conclusion. Ishaq Dar, Nawaz’s trusted book-cooker, sang like a canary in 2000 and his statement is irrevocable under Pakistani Criminal Procedure Code. Nawaz was only saved by the cabal of Arab Sheikhs that flooded in and had the government sign an exile agreement for him (which he denied until it came out lol). The case was shelved after that before the acquittal in 2014 by a ‘Sharif court’. And do give your defense of the co-operatives scam? Are you again going to pipe the same tune of judicial acquittal? When a single person, Justice Lone, favored the Nooras in the verdict despite the mountain of evidence against them. No wonder, he spent 6 years in the senate on a PML-N ticket after retirement. And what about al-Taufiq and the 32 million pound settlement? Sharifs never did no wrong, right?
        > I salute your naiveté. Do you really believe that what came forward in Panama case is the only ill-gotten wealth he has? Lol. And nobody needs to prove anything as Nawaz Sharif and his cronies are doing all the proving for the prosecution. He has no tangible money trail or cohesive statements else this case would have been done and dusted in 2 weeks.

In conclusion, do come out of the Maryam media cell once in a while. Get some fresh air. Will help clear up your brain.

        • “I salute your Patwarism”, if you hadn’t used this as your opening sentence, your comment would have been readable. Now it means speak loud without justifying yourself. Ethics comes first!.

  • Common guyz just give’m a chance to participate. Maybe its like trying to compete Amazon’s best sellers “Pakistan A Personal History” and “In The Line Of Fire” by Imran Khan and Pervez Musharraf.

The thing which is quite hard to swallow, above books gained popularity and made their place into shelves, libraries on their own. But the way above book is enforced.. “Wowwwww”

  • complete bullshit….Noora nefarious league has nothing better to offer but it’s not a surprise because dumb skulls will be dumb skulls
