Advisory Committee for Auction of 3G, 4G Spectrum Constituted

During last three years, the government has successfully done two rounds of next generation spectrum (3G/4G) auction. The Industry and sector has witnessed an exponential growth in result of these auctions. There was a phenomenal increase in the number of subscribers of broadband user in telecom sector where the broadband density today is surpassing 27%.

As a result of ongoing market expansion, Government has decided to consider auctioning the last available spectrum of 10MHz in 1800MHz. For this purpose, Prime Minister of Pakistan has constituted an Advisory Committee for auction of this spectrum which is headed by MoS IT & Telecom Mrs. Anusha Rahman while Special Assistants to PM for Law, Secretary IT, Secretary Finance, Secretary Law, Chairman PTA, ED FAB and Member telecom are the members of this committee. Member Telecom has also been appointed as “Committee Secretary”.

The inaugural meeting of this Auction Advisory Committee was held at MOIT today. MoS IT& Telecom Mrs. Anusha Rahman while chairing the meeting stated that we are committed to conduct the third round of Spectrum auction in most transparent and professional manner as were done earlier in 2014 & 2016 respectively.

Chairman PTA, Syed Ismail Shah apprised the committee of the consultant’s report on Market Assessment for auction of spectrum.

This advisory committee is mandated to determine the base price of spectrum and propose a policy directive for the purpose.

Mrs. Anusha Rehman said that this is the last available spectrum block from the initially allocated spectrum in 2014 and is an opportunity for the telecom companies to enhance their spectrum capacity and provide high quality broadband services as per demand of the growing consumer base in the country.

    • It should better be as Ufone is now the only one which hasn’t subscribed to 4g services

  • If Ufone will not go for it, it will remain unsold.

And this spectrum should only be called 4G. Because no one is running 3G on 1800 Mhz in the world. Nor the handsets are available to support 1800 MHz 3G. So technically it is 4G only auction.

    • Telenor k chances hain kyunke telenor k pas 850mhz hai aur bohut si devices ye frequency support hi nahi karti jese qmobile huawei htc k bohot se models 1800mhz pe hi chalte aur samsung me jo last year models aye hain wo 850mhz support karte hain

      • Shayed aap ne pichla article parrha nahin. Telenor ka revenue decline ho raha hai. Further investment ka swaal hi paida nahin hota. Aur tamaam companies k new model 850 band support kar rahay hyn.

        • Bhaiyya revenue barhane keliye hi telenor ko jugaar karna parre ga na or rahi baat new models ki tau jab tamam LTE supported handset pe dono frequencies operate hongi tau revenue thek hoga

          • Do you think Telenor H.Q will pay Telenor Pakistan 395 million dollars excluding tax for another auction? Specially when Pakistan at bottom of their average ARPU list of countries and their ROI is zero untill now against 6 month old 395 million investment (Telenor 4G is still in its testing phase) ? When they need heavy investment to spread their 4G footprints in coming days? This is not how Telecom companies run business. They need ROI which is not happening for them right now in Pakistan. They will better invest in upcoming Bangladeshi 4G auction where their ARPU is much better than Pakistan.

I would have agree to you if you named Zong instead of Telenor which have already established its 4G network through more than 7000 cell sites which they planned to touch 1100 till end of the year. They only need spectrum now, no any further investment required to utilize spectrum. And one more thing, this is last available spectrum in 1800 MHz a frequency best for 4G. If Zong get this, they will be only ones to enjoy all of their 4G network on same frequency. All other companies will have to deploye different frequencies for one 4G network in future.
So after Ufone if there is any pottential buyer, it is Zong.

  • Can any one please tell me the exact frequencies each 3g and 4g network is operating in Pakistan… By frequencies I mean exact operating section of frequencies. Uplink and downlink as I want to built specific antennas for them..
