The Sindh government is moving in on internet cafes in the province. The provincial government, under Section 144 (6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, has imposed a ban on internet cafes working without proper video surveillance and recording systems.

The cafes will be given a formal 15 day notice from a local SHO if they don’t have video surveillance systems and recording systems installed.

Those that do have security cameras and a recording system installed, will be required to keep their recordings for 1 year. The cafe owners will have to keep copies of their customers’ CNICs along with a record of their usage time and the cabin number given to them.
