Jazz to Establish 10 USF Sponsored Telecenters Across Pakistan

Ministry of IT & Telecom — through USF — entered into a contract with Jazz for establishment of ten telecenters across diverse areas of the country.

In this connection, a signing ceremony of USF with Jazz, was held at Ministry of IT. Minister of State for IT & Telecom Mrs. Anusha Rehman witnessed the ceremony.

Mr. Haaris Chaudhary, CEO – USF and CEO Jazz Mr. Aamir Ibrahim mutually signed the agreement for the establishment of telecenters.

These telecenters are meant for provision of e-services, distance learning and creation of employment opportunities for freelancers etc amongst other benefits like bridging the digital divide.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for IT & Telecom Mrs. Anusha Rehman said that provision of 3G Mobile broadband services to far flung areas remained our priority focus. This endeavor of telecenters project is an integral part of overall policy decision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for providing maximum facilitation to remote areas of the country. She also added that the initiatives like establishment of Telecentres will ensure ubiquitous development across the length and breadth of the country and contribute to the socio-economic development of Pakistan.

“This is a proud moment for Jazz and a reflection of our commitment to bridge the digital divide in the country,” said Aamir Ibrahim, CEO – Jazz. “Together with the MoIT, we are changing the lives of 1000s of people; people that will now be able to communicate with loved ones from abroad, who will broaden their horizons by accessing knowledge from around the world, and who will be making their lives more convenient through world-class E-services.”

It is noteworthy to mention that these telecenters are being established in Sargodha, Okara, Burewala, Arifwala, Shaikhupura and Fazilpur – Punjab districts; Mingora, and Mardan – KPK districts; Shikarpur, and KN Shah – Sindh districts.
