Fresh from its announcement of Band 2 and Band 2 Pro, Huawei is back for a new ultra-premium smartwatch. The differences between the two announcements and the company’s commitment for the industry couldn’t be more visible.
The product in question is just a more spruced up version of the Watch 2 Classic Huawei announced previously – made in collaboration with Porsche Design. The Watch 2 Classic is already one of the more premium smartwatches in the market but the special edition variant takes it a step further. Porsche Design has previously worked with the company on the Mate 9 Pro as well.
The outstanding feature apart from the price is (surprise!) the design. The watch features a black accent all round, with red accents gracing the two buttons on the side. The ceramic bezel on the front has been engraved for an edgier, sportier look.
The strap is also changed to something more high-end, a leather-rubber combination with similar red stitches. There’s a new watch face to commemorate the partnership of the two companies, and for some sort of differentiation on the software side, too.
Features and Connectivity options
Otherwise, the smartwatch is pretty much similar to the Watch 2 Classic. There’s a heart-rate monitor with GPS and VO2 measurement, which is a more accurate way of deciding how much training you require.
The battery is said to last 2 days, though, don’t expect that much with GPS on. There’s NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for pairing the watch with a phone (no SIM card) as well as IP68 dust and water protection.
The Porsche Design name obviously comes with a bit of heft behind it, and that is reflected in the pricing: €795 Euros or around $925. Compared to that, the “cheaper” Watch 2 Classic retails for about $550, a substantial difference backed largely by the changed design. You can throw in the Lionel Messi sponsorship too, if that helps.
