iPhone X Inspired Huawei P20 Lite Announced

After creating an intense hype and rumors in the smartphone world, the mid-range Huawei P20 lite (launched as Nova 3E in China) is finally here; a week earlier than the flagships Huawei P20 and P20 Pro.

So why the hype? Huawei was expected to bring a tri-cam set up, first of its kind, and a bezel-less display with a notch on top, just like the iPhone X.

Rumors have been confirmed and the P20 lite has a similar notch and a dual-cam set up. Its sibling P20 and P20 Pro flagships might come with the tri-cam arrangement instead.

Design and Display

Huawei P20 Lite Display in multiple colors

The first thing that catches attention is the bezel-less display. There’s nothing new about this design, Huawei basically made a “cheap iPhone X” for people who really have a thing for that notch on top. The horizontal dual cam at the back, the glass build – there’s no doubt that Huawei designed it to look like an iPhone X.

Huawei P20 lite has a 5.84-inch bezel-less LTPS IPS LCD with a notch on top. The display panel sports a resolution 1080 x 2280p and the screen-to-body ratio is approximately 80%.

The phone has a metal frame and a dual-glass build to promote the premium appeal. Unlike the iPhone X, Huawei P20 lite has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor too.

Hardware and Storage

Unlike some mid-rangers such as the Honor 7C, Huawei P20 lite comes with Huawei’s home-made octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 –  4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.36 GHz and remaining 4 clocked at 1.7 GHz. The GPU is Mali-T830 MP2 paired with 4 GB of RAM.

P20 lite does not come with separate storage options, it is only available with 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB via microSD slot (SIM slot 2).

Camera and Software

The primary camera is a dual-cam set up consisting of a 16 MP main sensor paired with a 2 MP depth sensor for portrait mode and background defocus. It has a dual LED flash and supports PDAF as well. Unfortunately, it does not come with any kind of image stabilization technology. The front sensor is a 16 MP unit and can record videos up to 1080p.

Out of the box, Huawei P20 lite comes with Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 on top.

Battery, Price, and Availability

Huawei P20 lite has a decent 3,000mAh non-removable battery which can be charged via USB Type-C 1.0 port. Fast-charging is available.

It can be pre-ordered in China and Europe for now and will start shipping by March 27th. Color options are Klein Blue, Sakura Pink and Midnight Black and the pre-order price is CNY 1,999 or €369.
