One of the most adored and visited places in Karachi – Do Darya – is shutting down for all restaurants. The restaurants there have been people’s top-choice for dine-in for so long, mainly because of the breathtaking sea view. However, against the will of almost everyone, the restaurants are terminating their operations to provide land for the construction of high-rise buildings.
According to reports, the widely-admired restaurants will shut down in June or early July after Ramzan. There is no apparent reason as to why the restaurants are halting their operations. There are speculations about what could be the reason behind the closure of Karachi’s favorite eating place.

Why is it Closing?
As per reports, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) owns the Do Darya belt. The restaurant authorities and DHA came to an understanding that no permanent construction will be done on the land. In 2015, DHA warned all restaurants on the land to wind up and vacate the land. DHA wanted to build a sports complex and several other centers in the area.
In another report, DHA wanted to sell the land to a foreign investment group for construction of high rise buildings and underground restaurants.
However, at that time, the issue was resolved and Do Darya’s restaurants continued serving.
This time, it seems that it’s going to be a permanent goodbye as restaurants at Do Darya have been ordered to remove the temporary constructions and wrap up business. Take a look;

The lease contract between restaurants on Do Darya and DHA ends on July 7. Maybe, DHA and the food spots will come to an agreement again if the campaign catches force. A place like this needs to continue operating as it attracts a lot of tourists and employs hundreds as well.
Nothing anyone can do I guess, legally speaking, if the lease is ending in July.

Idiot the land was rented to these restaurants. the agreement would end in june. they are not the owners. cant you see the way they built the setup temporarily. that is just because they were permitted to operate till june, 2018
DHA/Behria and other Housing Schemes have been wiping out agriculture land for decades, no one cares, why should we care if they are going to demolish few Restaurants? You can build Restaurant anywhere, but you cannot grow mangoes or plant rice anywhere you like. These green fields provided protection again extreme weather, recharged our dwindling under ground water basins, but the nation is interested in Plot Investment, everyone else can go to where they think they are right now..
