Nokia N-Series is Coming Back

After announcing the revival of the X-series, HMD Global is gearing up for the launch of yet another famous brand under the Nokia umbrella, the N-series.

Fans are hoping that the new N-series model(s) is announced alongside the newly-revived X6, and that’s not a long shot. The company’s account on Weibo mentioned the history of the series on its 13th anniversary (which was on April 27th).

However, in the teaser, there is an invitation for an unboxing event for the new phone, between April 27th and May 2nd, in Sanlitun, Chaoyang District, Beijing. It’s the same place where the company’s X6 event will also soon take place.

If it follows the true spirit of the series, the new N-series model would be a high-end device with great photography chops. It’ll be yet another revived device under the HMD Global umbrella, following the likes of the new 4G and Wi-Fi touting Nokia 3310 and 8810.

The Beginning

Launched in 2005 the N-series was, for a long time, a place for Nokia to show its latest and greatest creations. By the looks of things, HMD will most likely find a bunch of classic phones to revive this time around as well. Though, primarily backed by Symbian, the N-series was also home to several Meego and Maemo running phones and tablets.

The N-series arguably reached its zenith in the late 2000s, with phones such as the N95, N97, and N86. It also earned Nokia several impressive accolades, including the first 8 MP camera, the first phone with a million purchases, and the first non-candy bar form factor phone with a million sales.

Last of The N-Series

The last hurrah for the series was the Nokia N8, a 12 MP cameraphone which easily gave Nokia command over all the other such phones of the market, though, the Meego-running, button-less N9 was a winner at least on paper, which got little to no backing.

We don’t have to wait much longer to see what happens now, with the event set to begin soon.
