Xiaomi’s flagship Mi Mix was among the first phones to kick-start the bezel-less display trend.
The company managed to make an immersive device by reducing the edges and the top bezel (without a notch) to an almost unnoticeable size while keeping the bottom chin slightly wide to house the front camera.
For the Mi Mix 3 (or whatever it gets called), Xiaomi is going completely bezel and chin-free by moving the camera to a retractable drawer, just like Vivo’s NEX S.
There’s no official confirmation on this, but a leaked official-looking image has surfaced on a Chinese social network, which hints towards a Xiaomi phone with a pop-up camera. It does not, however, say whether it’s going to be the Mi Mix 3.
The company has two flagship series, the Mi series, and the Mi Mix series. Assuming that the pop-up phone is going to be a flagship, it’s highly likely to be launched as part of the Mi Mix lineup as its the forefront of bezel-less devices. Secondly, Xiaomi recently launched Mi 8 as part of the Mi lineup, so it’s unlikely to get a successor any time soon.
As seen in the poster, the company already mentioned a date of September, this year, so we can expect more details to become available soon.
The selfie camera will be placed in a retractable periscope that pops out whenever the front camera is launched. Due to this, there is no need to create some sort of cutout or housing to place the camera and the Mi Mix 3 will have more screen and even smaller bezels.
Xiaomi’s pop-up system might not be exactly identical, but it’s doing something similar to the Oppo Find X and the Vivo NEX S for the upcoming Mi Mix 3.
