Eight Players End Up in Hospital After Insect Attack in First Class Cricket Match

Pakistan’s premier domestic cricket tournament, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, is underway across Pakistan and the players do not seem to be satisfied with the quality of facilities available to them, and rightly so. As many as eight players were bitten by bugs at Diamond Cricket Club during Habib Bank Limited’s (HBL) opening match against Islamabad region.

The dismal condition of the ground and dressing rooms made eight players visit the hospital immediately after the match; test cricketer Imran Farhat shared his picture with bug bites on social media.

He shared multiple tweets, highlighting the disgusting environment for players in the domestic matches. Here’s what he said:

This is not the first instance of poor facilities for the players as former captain Misbah-ul-Haq also pointed out during his side’s match. He took to Twitter to share the shocking pictures of a dressing room.

With all the talks of revamping and improving domestic structure, Misbah urges PCB to first provide proper facilities at the grounds during domestic matches.

PCB allocated Rs 2.66 billion for cricket infrastructure and Rs 916.36 million for domestic cricket in the budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 which was approved on 16 July 2018. It is about time to put this amount to good use so that the players feel safe while playing.

The newly elected PCB Chairman, Ehsan Mani needs to pay immediate attention to the matter at the earliest.

  • No matter if our players beat Virat Kohli’s fitness score, until and unless we have world class facilities at all levels, we will be the same “unpredictable” side. We will never do well in sports.
