Xiaomi’s sub-brand Huami is a well-known name in China, it’s a company that specializes in manufacturing budget-friendly smartwatches.
It just launched a new smartwatch, known as the Huami Amazfit Verge. It’s a good-looking smartwatch that comes with all the essential fitness sensors as well as a sharp AMOLED display. Read on for details,
Design & Display
The good thing about the Amazfit Verge is that it takes design cues from traditional wristwatches, with its circular but not-so-large display and a thick strap, much like classic sports watches. It’s great for those who prefer traditional watches, but don’t mind some extra, new-era features from a smartwatch. The Amazfit Verge weighs 46 grams.
Its display measures 1.3-inches, 43mm diameter, a size that is easy to use for most people, while its body is made up of reinforced plastic and a removable silicone strap. The AMOLED display has a 360×360 resolution and a coating on top to prevent fingerprint smudges.
The Verge also has a protective layer of Gorilla Glass 3, and an IP68 rated water and dust resistance. However, you can’t swim with it, as the water-proofing can only handle non-extreme dips.
Specifications
Underneath, Amazfit Verge has a decent 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, and 4 GB internal storage. It has a number of sensors including GPS+GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0+BLE, and Wi-Fi. Along with the essentials, the watch also has additional air pressure and geomagnetic sensors.
On the software-end it features 11 different pre-installed sports modes. And much like some recently launched smartwatches, Amazfit Verge has a constant heart-rate monitoring feature. Huami’s heart rate optical sensor is 80% more power efficient than previously used sensors and a 98% accuracy, the watch uses the sensor to let the user know of their heart rhythm, and notifies them of irregular patterns as well.

It also supports NFC payments in China, coming with pre-built support for bus cards in over 20,000 public transports. Of course, it will also get support for AliPay and Union Pay.
Battery, Price, & Availability
As for the battery, official figures say that the watch will last 5 days on a single charge. However, if you crank up the usage by keeping the sensors on, or by keeping the watch constantly connected to your phone to show WeChat notifications, the battery life will drop.
The price is CNY 799 (~Rs. 14,500). It will go on sale soon via some Chinese retailers in Sky Gray color.

ECG has 6 leads. Even Apple’s marketing trick makes it an ECG watch though it records just one lead. That is not even a complete picture.
