UET Student Dies During Basketball Match

A student of Lahore’s University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Monday died during basketball match after suffering a heart attack.

Students of UET were playing basketball when one of the players Hassan Tariq collapsed after suffering a heart attack and was rushed to a nearby health facility.

Tariq was pronounced dead after arrival at the health facility. UET administration said that Tariq collapsed during the game and complained of chest pain. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

Tariq was a student of 3rd  year in Mechatronic Engineering Department of the university. He was 20 years old.

Tariq’s friends say he was a talented student with a promising future.

The UET is one of the oldest engineering universities in the country. The institution was founded in 1921 as the ‘ Mughalpura Technical College’.

In the year 1932, the institution was affiliated with the University of Punjab for the award of  Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.  In 1947, at the time of independence, the Institution was offering well-established B.Sc. Degree Courses in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

In 1954 it started a Bachelor’s Degree course in Mining Engineering, the first-ever of its kind in the country. In 1962 it was transformed into the ‘West Pakistan University of Engineering & Technology’, and within a few years Bachelor’s Degree Courses were started in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum & Gas Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Architecture, and City & Regional Planning.
