Xiaomi’s First Android Go Phone is Now Official

A few days ago, Xiaomi’s budget-friendly Android Go smartphone leaked in full, revealing how the device will look like and what the specifications are going to be.

Today, Xiaomi has officially taken the wraps off of the Redmi Go and the specifications have now been officially confirmed.

Being a budget device, and an Android Go phone, the Redmi Go sports just barely decent specifications to help you make it through the day.

Design and Display

Unsurprisingly, the Redmi Go comes with a polycarbonate construction all around. There’s no fingerprint scanner.

 

 

The front is mostly bezel but you do have a 5.0-inch LCD panel sporting a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and without a notch, the aspect ratio is a standard 16:9.

Hardware

The processor running everything on the Redmi Go is a fairly decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 which is used on most budget phones, even by Xiaomi themselves. However, it is backed by only 1GB of RAM and internal memory options are either 8GB or 16GB.

Thankfully you do get a hybrid SIM slot meaning you can either it in a dual SIM configuration or one SIM plus a microSD card. And with that, you can expand the storage by up to 128GB.

The battery on the Redmi Go is a 3,000mAh cell which is more than enough to power the Redmi Go through the day thanks to its power-efficient processor and lower resolution screen. The battery can be charged through a microUSB port.

Cameras

The camera setup on the Redmi Go is also pretty humble.

On the back, you get a single 8MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. It does support HDR and LED flash is also present. The front has a 5MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.

Software

On the software front, you get Android 8.1 Oreo Go edition. It is a bit surprising to see Xiaomi not going with the latest Go version which is the Android 9.0 Pie Go.

Nevertheless, even with 8.1 Oreo Go, you do get a bunch of Go applications to run smoothly on the phone such as Maps Go or YouTube Go etc. There are also other popular Lite applications available that you can download to use on the Redmi Go.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi Redmi Go has been launched in Europe only for now with a price tag of €80 (~PKR 13,000) and availability in other countries, as well as Pakistan, is yet to be confirmed by Xiaomi.
