Federal Minister for Water Resources, Faisal Vawda, has said that the water ministry has saved Rs. 18 billion from the allocated amount for the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dam.
The minister said, “We could have escalated the construction price by 15% under PPRA Rules but by not doing so we directly saved Rs. 18 billion and indirectly Rs. 63 billion.”
He told the House that he will give a special briefing to Prime Minister in this regard. The permission to utilize this amount for the construction of Naulong Dam in Balochistan will also be sought in this briefing, said the minister.
Vawda further said that under the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, India has control over the eastern water. Therefore, the India threats of restricting water supply to Pakistan have no weight.
