Karachi Gets Free Ambulance Service

The Sindh government has introduced free ambulance service in Karachi in collaboration with Aman Foundation.

Aman Foundation signed an initial agreement on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in December last year. Under the agreement, the foundation has provided 60 of its ambulances for this service, which is available free of cost.

The government will run this service in collaboration with the Patient’s Aid Foundation (PAF). These ambulances will transport patients from hospital to home and vice versa.

All expenses will be covered by the provincial government. Citizens can avail the service by calling on Aman Foundation’s ambulance helpline 1021.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah announced the project in December 2018. He said that in the first phase, the government will take over the Aman Ambulances that will operate in Karachi in collaboration with the PAF.

Whereas, the second phase will see the expansion of ambulances from 60 to 200 by the end of 2019. It needs to be noted here that the World Health Organization (WHO) prescribes at least one ambulance for every 100,000 people. However, there is only one ambulance available for 300,000 people in Karachi.
