Uber & Careem Were Temporarily Banned from Entering Karachi Airport [Updated]

Update: It has been informed that the signboards preventing entry of Careem and Uber vehicles have been removed from Jinnah Terminal of Karachi’s airport. Careem and Uber users can continue to use the airport’s parking as before.

The ride-hailing services were temporarily banned but the matter has now been resolved and airport administration is willing to allow such vehicles into the airport.

Jinnah International Airport Karachi has banned the entry of ride-hailing services Uber and Careem from entering its premises.

After the revised policy, cars registered with the online cab services cannot use the premises of ‘long stay parking area’ of the airport.

A warning sign has been placed at the entrance of the airport which says:

 The vehicles of Uber & Careem are prohibited to enter in Parking area and pickups from Airport is also banned, In case of Violation strict action will be taken including impounding of vehicles.

The ban, as per the authorities, applies on cars, rickshaw, motorbikes or any other vehicle affiliated with Careem and Uber. The authorities have warned of stricter actions against the violators, including confiscation of vehicles.

This is not the first incident of its kind as previously, the management of Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport had banned the online taxi services’ entry.

The decision, according to sources, was taken because with the expanding business of online cab services, their taxable income has also increased. However, the companies are not paying the owed taxes to the government.
