New WhatsApp Beta Update Aims to Stop The Spread of Fake News

WhatsApp has been pretty regular in releasing beta updates. From introducing Picture in Picture (PiP) mode to continuous voice message playing and dark mode, WhatsApp has kept its developers busy. Just recently, a new WhatsApp beta build has been sent out which includes a way to curb fake news. Since WhatsApp is one of the main sources used to spread fake news, this was a much-needed feature.

This new beta build brings its users a forward message filter in groups. It can be accessed under the group settings under the title, “disallow frequently forwarded messages”. This feature, only limited to Android users, will help in preventing fake news from circulating rapidly.

Another feature introduced is the new audio preview or audio picker UI. Have you gone through the struggle to select an audio file to send but cannot check if it is the right one? Well, that is about to change. Now, while sending audio files, you can preview the album and the details. The limit of audio files that can be sent has also been increased to 30.

The third feature is for iPad users. This beta build comes with iPad support. iPad users can now use WhatsApp with features similar to the WhatsApp for iPhone. 3D face-unlock feature for iPad is also being tested.

The above-mentioned features are available for the latest beta build of WhatsApp, after proper testing, they will be sent out as updates.

  • considering how much customer data Facebook and Whatsapp harvest and sell, they should assign more employees to read whatsapp messages and delete fake news sent to me in real time!

    thanks

  • They collect all user data any way. I’ll be pleased if Watsapp or FB employees delete fake news from my msgs in real time
