Punjab Sets New Name of Walled City of Lahore Authority

The Punjab government has officially renamed the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) as the Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority (PWCHAA), expanding the heritage body’s role across the province.

According to an official notification issued on Wednesday, the new name has taken effect under the amended law.

All future government notifications, official correspondence, records, and documents will use the name “Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority” instead of the former “Walled City of Lahore Authority.”

Officials said the change reflects the authority’s broader responsibility for conserving, restoring, and managing historical sites and heritage areas across Punjab, rather than focusing only on Lahore’s Walled City.

The authority will continue to oversee heritage conservation, urban regeneration, tourism promotion, public engagement, and sustainable development.

It will also launch new initiatives to protect and promote Punjab’s historical and cultural assets.
