The meeting was apprised that adequate wheat stocks are present in the country to fulfill the population’s demand. This year’s procured amount of wheat is 33 percent less than the wheat produced in the same period last year. The committee also discussed the recent increase in prices of wheat and wheat flour.

The ECC agreed to impose a ban on wheat exports and directed to convene a meeting of National Price Monitoring Committee to present recommendations for controlling the price hike of ‘Roti’ and other wheat products in the local market.

The committee also approved that the National Fertilizer Marketing Limited (NFML) will fix the Dealer Transfer Price (DTP) of 50kg imported urea bags at Rs. 1800. The approved price is Rs. 166 less than the current average market price of Sona urea, Rs. 1966 per 50kg bag.

The ECC also agreed with the decision of Governing Council of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to change the base price stats from 2007-2008 to 2015-16. This new 2015-16 price base will include rural market statistics, weight-based population census 2017, computation of indices based on Weighted Geometric Mean, introduction of consumption quintiles instead of income quintiles, a consumer weighted approach to compute gas prices for combined income groups and introduction of GST and other taxes to compute electricity tariffs by using a consumer weighted approach.
