Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has discarded thousands of liters of adulterated milk in the province, a statement from the department revealed this yesterday.
According to the KP Food Department, an inspection team headed by Director Operations Khalid Iqbal Khattak raided milk shops on Kohat Road, Yakatoot, Dabgari Garden and Shah Qabool localities in Peshawar and recovered 8000 liters of unhealthy milk. They were mixing water, ammonia, and powdered milk.
The authority said that these shops were sealed and their owners were arrested for selling hazardous milk. It added that the milk was discarded on the spot.
The provincial food authority has been quite vigilant in the last couple of months. During Ramadan, it detained a vehicle containing thousands of Kgs of rotten frozen chicken meant to be supplied to Peshawar markets.
The truck full of rotten chicken was intercepted on Grand Trunk Road near Chamkani area.
