Four People Arrested for Selling ‘Plastic Eggs’ in Karachi

The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has arrested at least four people from Karachi’s posh area for selling fake plastic eggs for consumption.

The SFA team conducted a raid on a retailer shop in Clifton and recovered at least three crates of plastic eggs, the health and food watchdog said in a statement on Monday. They also arrested the shop owner.

Preliminary inspection suggests that the eggs recovered from the shop were made from a plastic material.

The eggs were sent to the laboratory for further tests.

The authority also intercepted a supply van and confiscated over a hundred crates. The van was carrying hundreds of fake eggs from Gharo to Karachi.

Further widening the crackdown, SFA, along with Sindh police, raided different shops in Khayaban-e-Sahar and arrested three more, two wholesalers and one retailer, selling synthetic eggs. The police say the eggs were kept with genuine chicken eggs.

Earlier this month, similar reports emerged in the neighboring country India where a Bangalore citizen had complained that artificial eggs were being sold in the market.

  • Eggs are REALLY cheap how much it cost to make fake eggs. Just look for the “made in china” sticker ;))
