Huawei Interested in Helping Pakistan Develop a Digital Economy: Huawei Chairman to PM Imran

Mr. Li Jie Chairman of the supervisory Board Huawei, along with his delegation, called on Prime Minister Imran Khan at PM Office.

Chairman Board of Investment Syed Zubair Haider Gillani, Secretary Commerce Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera, Secretary IT Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Huawei Pakistan CEO Saif Chi, Deputy CEO Ahmed Bilal Masud, PR Director Ma Libing were also present during the meeting.

Chairman Li Jie informed the Prime Minister about the progress being made by the company. He further briefed the Prime Minister that since Huawei has entered Pakistan in 1998, Huawei has paid 300 million USD tax and made 1.5 billion USD local procurements. Huawei has also established one Technical Support Center in Islamabad which has 800 high tech engineers. Pakistan has huge potential in the ICT industry, Huawei is willing to share its global experience and the latest technology to help Pakistan to develop a digital economy.

While highlighting huge business opportunities created under the new E-policy, launched by the Ministry of Commerce, the Prime Minister invited the company to explore business opportunities in this sector. He further urged them to involve brilliant young minds of Pakistan working in technical fields.

Highlighting attractive incentive packages, being offered by the Government to the potential relocating industries, the Prime Minister also highlighted the availability of talented and enterprising youth potential of the country which would help the foreign countries to grow further.

The IT department has launched the Digital Pakistan campaign and would be keen to involve them. The Prime Minister further said that their expertise in providing import substitution and advancement in technical automation operation launched in collaboration with students of NUST and GIK would be of great advantage.

Mr. Li Jie stated that he was impressed by the intellect of the Pakistani youth. He said Huawei will continue to promote technology transfer and cultivate local ICT talents by working with Pakistan’s top universities through programs like ICT Academies, Seeds for the Future, ICT Competition and AI training.

  • Honorable Chairman Mr. Li Jie Pakistan has FTA/PTA bilateral treaty with China, seek help to develop a digital economy. In view of the bilateral trade agreements you should avail the local manufacture of Digital devices, collaborative research between PK and China for export/manufacture Digital Devices of Android, Hong Meng availing global markets including the US which would welcome Huawei Pak Made to US markets which is the only previlege of Pakistan.
    The ICT devices assembled/made in Pakistan will reach global markets on PTA/FTA agreements between countries from Pakistan and of course China could enjoy this advantage of the developed market region. Please reduce the prices of Huawei in Pakistan which are assembled here at least 70% as a token of gratitude to Pakistan and our honorable Prime Minister Pakistan.
