Alibaba, China’s Amazon, Microsoft, gaming developer, and healthcare network, all in one just came up with an AI system for diagnosing the COVID-19 (coronavirus).
According to recent reports, the company claims to have developed an AI system that can review 300 chest CT scans in less than 20 seconds to determine if the patient is infected or not. The report states that on average, human doctors take 15 minutes or more to make the determinations. However, the AI was trained using more than 5000 samples from confirmed coronavirus cases.
Currently, at least 100 healthcare facilities in China are implementing the AI solution for Coronavirus screening.
This system, on the other hand, is not one of a kind. Alibaba’s rival healthcare organization Ping An also came up with a similar solution recently. The organization’s co-president and chief strategy officer, Geoff Kau, released a statement saying:
Since its launch, the smart image-reading system has provided services to more than 1,500 medical institutions. More than 5,000 patients have received smart image-reading services for free. The system can generate smart analysis results in around 15 seconds, with an accuracy rate above 90%.
The more solutions to the issue, the better. Anything that can help the overwhelmed doctors in diagnosis and treatment is welcomed in such situations.
