13 MNAs Including Former PM Test Positive for Coronavirus

Thirteen members of the National Assembly (MNAs), including former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rasheed, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, besides a large number of staff members.

This was revealed during a meeting of the parliamentarians in the National Assembly, held under the chairmanship of Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser. The meeting was convened to discuss modus operandi for sittings of the National Assembly during COVID-19.

He urged all members to strictly follow health guidelines and maintain social distancing while performing everyday tasks.

I could feel the agony and pain through which the coronavirus patients and their families go.

The session was held under strict adherence to SOPs. No legislative and non-legislative agenda was taken up during the session to give maximum opportunity to MNAs to take part in a general discussion on the national budget.

The session decided to stretch meetings up to three hours with the presence of 25% of the total members during a particular sitting. The leadership of parliamentary parties will iron out the details.
