The federal government will soon initiate the restructuring process of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC), Pakistan’s apex moon-sighting body.
Chairman Mufti Muneeb-Ur-Rehman and other members of the RHC will be replaced during the overhaul process.

According to sources in Ministry for Religious Affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony, RHC’s parent department, a summary, and a bill to reform the RHC and its Terms of Reference (ToRs) have already been devised.
Both the summary and the bill have been forwarded to the Ministry of Law and Justice for more deliberations and legal opinions.
The draft of the bill states that the current Chairman and other members of RHC, who are receiving benefits equivalent to a BPS-20 official, will be replaced with new religious scholars.

It has also proposed heavy fines for religious scholars and seminaries who will announce the sighting of the moon in contradiction with the RHC in the future.
In 1974, RHC was set up under a resolution passed by the National Assembly (NA). However, no formal rules or regulations for the functioning of the RHC have been formulated in 46 years.
