Popular Dating App Tinder to Discuss Moderation With PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) banned Tinder and other apps in the country for their negative effects on the community and for “immoral content”. The dating app is now looking to have a discussion with PTA to negotiate the application’s moderation efforts.

PTA banned a total of 5 dating and streaming apps including Tinder, Tagged, Skout, Grindr, and SayHi. Soon after Tinder was banned, it released a statement saying:

We welcome the opportunity to discuss our product and moderation efforts with the (PTA) and look forward to a meaningful conversation. We are constantly evaluating and refining our processes, and will always work with regulators and law enforcement, where possible, to protect our members.

PTA had originally banned the app from the country because it failed to moderate content in accordance with the law in Pakistan. They added that the company’s management did not respond in the time allowed and as a result, PTA had to issue orders to block the app.

However, PTA says that it is willing to reconsider their decisions if Tinder’s management assures adherence to Pakistani laws, so there is certainly hope for the dating app to operate as before.
