Babar Azam held the number one spot in T20I batsmen rankings for almost two years, before losing it recently to England’s Dawid Malan. But not everything was rosy for Pakistan’s limited-overs captain while his stay at the top. Babar received wide-spread criticism from the fans for his low strike-rate.
Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman, Kamran Akmal has come to the defense of Babar Azam, saying people should be motivating and praising his performances rather than looking down on him.

Talking in an interview, Kamran Akmal said:
An even greater tragedy is that people have started to criticize our number one batsman, Babar Azam, saying that he isn’t scoring runs at a fast-enough rate or isn’t winning enough games. What is becoming of us? If we wish to improve things then instead of looking down on a player like Babar, we should spend our energy on motivating him.
Babar was in stellar form in Pakistan’s tour of England recently as he scored one half-century in two innings in the T20I series.
Under his captaincy, Pakistan drew the series 1-1, winning the third T20I after rain washed out the first match. Ever since his debut, Babar Azam has been the mainstay in Pakistan’s batting line-up and has accumulated a lot of runs, but he has received criticism on his low scoring rate.

The stylish batsman still has some room for improvement and prove his critics wrong. Babar currently strikes at 127.93 in the shortest format with an average of 49.93.
