Microsoft Launches the Affordable Surface Laptop Go and Surface Pro X

Microsoft has announced an all-new Surface Laptop Go and the updated version of the Surface Pro X.

According to Microsoft, the Surface Laptop Go is the lightest device of its Surface Go series and is a more affordable alternative to the company’s premium devices.

On the other hand, Microsoft, in collaboration with Qualcomm, has added an updated SQ2 processor in the Surface Pro X. It is essentially an enhanced version of the Qualcomm-built SQ1 processor and offers improved CPU and GPU performance.

Let’s take a detailed look at the specifications of the new devices:

Surface Laptop Go

Design and Display

Weighing just 2.45 pounds, Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop Go has a 12.4-inch PixelSense display. It is 10.95 inches in length, 8.10 inches in width, and 0.62 inches in height.

The Surface Go has a screen resolution of 1536×1024, with 148 PPI density, 3:2 aspect ratio, and a 10 point multi-touch. It also includes an Intel UHD graphics card.

It has an aluminum top while the base is made out of Polycarbonate composite resin system with glass fiber and 30% post-consumer recycled content.

Performance

Powered by a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035 G1 Processor, it comes in three configurations i.e. 4GB RAM/64GB eMMC storage, 8GB RAM/128GB SSD storage, and 8GB RAM/256GB SSD storage.

Microsoft has claimed that the battery of the new Surface Go will last up to 13 hours in typical usage. It comes with a 39W power supply. It operates on Windows 10 Home in S mode2 and comes with a 30-day trial of Microsoft 365.

Other Features

The new Surface Go has enterprise-grade protection with Windows Hello one-touch sign-in with a Fingerprint Reader Power button. It has 1 USB-C port, 1 USB-A port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and 1 Surface Connect port.

The laptop boasts a 720p HD f2.0 front-facing camera, dual far-field studio mics, and omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio. It also features Bluetooth Wireless 5.0 technology, an ambient light sensor, and is Wi-Fi 6: 802.11ax compatible.

Price and Availability

The 4GB/64GB variant costs $550, the 8GB/128GB is available for $700, and the 8GB/256GB is priced at $900.

All set to be released on 13 October, it will be available in three colors i.e. Ice Blue, Sandstone, and Platinum.

Surface Pro X

An updated next-gen SQ2 processor powered by Qualcomm and classic platinum color options are the big new additions to the ARM-based Microsoft Surface Pro X.

Design and Display

The Microsoft Surface Pro X has a 13-inch PixelSense display and weighs 1.7 pounds. Its dimensions are 11.3 inches x 8.2 inches x 0.28 inches.

The Surface Pro X has a screen resolution of 2880×1920, 267 PPI density, 3:2 aspect ratio, and a 10 point multi-touch. Its casing is made out of anodized aluminum with carbon composite fan-less thermal cooling.

Performance

As mentioned above, the Microsoft Surface Pro X is powered with a next-gen SQ2 processor. It comes in two variants i.e. 16GB RAM/256GB storage and 16GB/512GB.

It operates on Windows 10 Home and comes with a 30-day trial of Microsoft 365. According to Microsoft, the battery of Surface Pro X will last up to 15 hours in normal usage.

Other Features

The Surface Pro X has a firmware TPM chip for enterprise security and BitLocker support enterprise-grade protection with Windows Hello face sign-in through face authentication front-facing camera.

It features a 5.0MP front-facing camera with 1080p full HD video and a 10.0MP rear-facing autofocus camera with 1080p HD and 4V video. It also has dual far-field studio mics and 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Audio sound.

The Surface Pro X has 2 USB-C ports, 1 Surface Connect port, Surface Keyboard port, and 1 nano-SIM slot.

It also has an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and ambient light sensors. The Surface Pro X is Wi-Fi 5: 802.11ac compatible and features Bluetooth Wireless 5.0 technology, Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, and up to Gigabit LTE Advanced Pro3 with nanoSIM and eSIM support.

Price and Availability

The 16GB/256GB variant of the Surface Pro X is priced at $1,499 while 16GB/512GB variant costs $1,799. The Surface Pro X will also be released on 13 October and it will be available in two colors Matte Black and Platinum.
