While briefing the media about SMDC, Azra Pechuho said that the bill notifying the establishment of SMDC will be introduced, passed, and signed into law within three months.

With that, Sindh will become the first province to set up a medical and dental council.

Time and again, Sindh, along with other provinces, has expressed reservations over the formation of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

Last month, the Federal government had promulgated the PMC Act 2020, which notified the establishment of the PMC as the apex medical and dental colleges regulating body and abolished the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Medical education experts have also raised concerns over the abolition of the PMDC, claiming that PMC would do little to improve the medical education standards in the country, rather, it would result in the complete opposite.
