Rashid Latif Reveals Why Sarfaraz Was the Best Choice For Captaincy

Former wicket-keeper, Rashid Latif, said that Sarfaraz Ahmed was the best choice for Pakistan as a captain and should not have been replaced. Earlier, former coach, Mickey Arthur, praised the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed during his tenure and lauded him as one of the best captains he has ever worked with.

Latif backed Mickey’s statements and said that PCB should have retained Sarfaraz as the captain as he was a leader on and off the pitch.

Sarfaraz was replaced as the captain from all three formats last year, after a poor showing in the 2019 ICC World Cup and poor performance in the series against Sri Lanka right after.

Babar Azam took over the captaincy of the limited-overs side, while Azhar Ali was named as the Test captain. Since then, Azhar has been replaced by Babar as the Test captain.

Latif is said to be a big admirer of Sarfaraz and applauded his record as the captain of the national side.

Latif said that Sarfaraz’s record of 11 consecutive T20 series wins and winning four World Cup matches on the bounce was terrific, and the PCB should have stuck with him as captain.

After his sacking, Sarfaraz lost his place as the first choice wicket-keeper to Mohammad Rizwan but has been included in the T20I squad in the upcoming series against New Zealand.
