QeA Trophy Points Table: KP Strong Favorites For Final With One Round Left

The ninth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy came to a close on Wednesday with KP, Southern Punjab, Northern and Central Punjab fighting for the top two spots. While Southern Punjab recorded a victory over Sindh, the other contenders fell short. Northern succumbed to their third defeat of the season while Central Punjab and KP battled out to a hard-fought draw.

Sindh’s bowlers were unable to defend a target of 370 in the final innings as Southern Punjab took home the points and climbed up the table to the second spot. Southern Punjab’s batsman, Imran Rafiq, was in magnificent touch as he scored a century in the fourth innings after scoring a half-century in the second innings. Sindh’s batsmen were in good form as well, with Mohammad Hasan scoring a century in the first innings and Sharjeel Khan scoring a ton in the third innings.

KP and Central Punjab faced off at the National Stadium Karachi. Central Punjab looked to extend their streak of three consecutive wins but were unable to break the defenses of KP batsmen as they battled their way towards a draw. KP were set a target of 305 in the final innings and they managed to score 65/2 at the end of the fourth day’s play. Central Punjab’s middle-order batsman, Saad Nasim, scored a wonderful century in the first innings.

Balochistan registered their second victory of the tournament by defeating Northern by an innings and five runs. Northern’s batsmen put on a disappointing display as they were bowled out for 203 in the first innings and 164 in the second innings. Balochistan managed to score 372 in their first innings despite a six-wicket haul for Northern captain, Nauman Ali. Kashif Bhatti took a five-wicket haul for Balochistan in their first innings.
