Model Bazaars to Replace Sahulat Bazaars Across Punjab

The Punjab government has decided to roll back over 170 Sahulat Bazaars across the province and replace them with Model Bazaars.

On December 30, the provincial government had ordered the deputy commissioners of Lahore and other districts to conduct a survey to find out the utility of Sahulat Bazaars that were established last year.

Based on the survey results, the government has decided to replace them with Model Bazaars, starting today. The new markets will be smaller and have different rates.

Samaa TV has quoted a government official to report that the process is expected to be completed by February 8.

In the first phase, starting January 11, the number of Sahulat Bazaars will be reduced to five in each district. These bazaars will be replaced by Model Bazaars starting January 25, and the replacement process will end by February 8.

According to the official, a total of 32 model markets will be set up in Punjab, 10 of which will be in Lahore.

Sahulat Bazaars were set up in the province last year to ensure people could buy daily use items at cheaper and fixed prices. However, the initiatives had lost people’s trust when the quality of several food items began to deteriorate.
