The Tarbela Dam generated only 428 megawatts of electricity on Monday as seven out of seventeen of its power generation units had been working on low capacity and ten of its units had been shut down.
The water inflow in the dam was recorded at 18,500 cusec feet and the outflow was recorded at 35,000 cusecs feet.

It’s sad to hear that this is the world’s largest dam in terms of the volume of material used and it’s only generating this much electricity. Look at China’s Three Gorges dam and compare it with ours. Despite using less construction material than our dam, they are still generating far more electricity than ours. Our dams could also work at maximum capacity if proper maintenance had been done by the past governments. IK announced that he will get proper maintenance done but still no progress. After seeing the incompetency of the power ministry during the blackout, I doubt that they will focus on hydropower.
Water flow is reduced in winter. Therefore, the production of electricity is also decreasing۔
You do know that tarbela was supposed to produce 6000 megawatts daily, right? 428MW is too low, even for winters.
Absolutely right.
It is dual purpose dam. The primary purpose is storing water for irrigation.
I think we have to make more and more smaller dams do that we can adjust for the power discrepancies.
I think Floating sar panel in down sream and upstream lake can fill the gap during winter season.
I think small dames construction is the need of the day or government shall look after the existing dames otherwise our country condition is very bad.
