The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given the Foreign Secretary an ultimatum of one week to submit a report in a case about falcon poaching.
During the hearing at the court, the IHC bench remarked that Pakistani falcons should not be exported in violation of the law.

The Foreign Secretary had been directed to submit a report by 13 January at the previous hearing but had failed to do so. The Deputy Attorney General requested the court for another week, and the court allowed it.
On 1 January, a 10-year-old had moved the IHC against the hunting of falcons and other special birds in the country. The petitioner had stated that the hunting of birds of special species should be banned and that local and foreign hunters should not be given permits to hunt falcons.

Falcons are often smuggled or exported to the Gulf countries. According to a report, 200 rare falcons were exported to a Gulf country from Pakistan earlier this year with special permission. Wealthy hunting parties from friendly Arab states use the falcon to catch and kill houbara bustards.
An earlier ban on the sport had been overturned by Pakistan’s top court in 2016.
